How To Plan Choose A Profession If You're Not College Bound

Blog

Perhaps you tried college and it just wasn't right for you. Or, maybe you'll be graduating from high school soon and you have no desire at all to even try college. No matter the reason for you not attending college, you may be trying to decide what to do to earn money for your future. If that's the case, here are some ideas that might help you to plan.

  • Be An Entrepreneur - There are millionaires who had a dream and reached that dream without having a college diploma. Some of them are Anne Beiler who knew she had a winning pretzel recipe, Ansel Adams, the world-famous photographer, and Coco Chanel, who inspired the famous Chanel No. 5 perfume. If you feel sure that you have a product or a service that will be well received, consider going it by yourself. You might have to wait on tables or clean houses while you are getting established, but that's worth it, if you feel passionate about your dream.
  • Get Certified - There are great careers that might start off small but end up big. For example, you can go to your community college or to a floral school and become certified as a flower arranger. There are usually different levels of certification which include beginner, intermediate and advanced classes. The advanced classes usually include training on how to run your own business, which just means you could start off in a flower shop and end up owning your own, if that's what you want to do. The same goes for cake decorating. You can actually go to a craft store that offers cake decorating classes. When you get good at it, you can make pretty impressive money designing and decorating things like expensive wedding cakes.
  • Get Licensed - Think about going to a trade school. For example, if you love computers, becoming an expert in that field means that you can troubleshoot or be a consultant. Perhaps you have always loved cars. Think about getting licensed in a special field that will be in high demand. If you have the skills and the licensing to work on expensive foreign cars, you'll be earning money while you do something you love. Are you the girl who was always doing makeup for your friends and family members? If you love the world of beauty, think about going to cosmetology school. Besides learning all about makeup, expert instructors will help you to become licensed in things like doing permanent makeup, tattoo removal, facials, waxes, massages, and even work that may be done in a medical office, like chemical peels. If you do decide to go to cosmetology school, you'll take written and practical tests and you'll apprentice under trained men and women.

Consider talking to men and women who work in different fields and who can tell you about how they got started. In addition, think about visiting many different businesses to see what fits you best.

Choosing An Exciting Career

When I graduated from high school, I knew that I didn't want to go to college--only to sit behind a desk for the rest of my life. Instead, I wanted to work with my hands, meet new people, and enjoy an ever-changing work environment. Those goals prompted me to investigate beauty school, which become the love of my life. I adored everything about beauty school--including learning how to cut hair, do nails, and consult with clients. It took me a long time to develop a loyal client following, but not that I have, I have a stable career that I can do from anywhere. This blog is all about beauty school, so that you can love what you do too.
